What is NextMD?

American Health Network has started a new and exciting program called NextMD

With NextMD you can securely connect with your doctor’s office over the internet

No more waiting on the phone!

Why use NextMD?

Using email allows you to communicate with your clinician’s office at a time that is convenient for you, without having to leave your home.

What can I do by email?

Schedule appointments

Request medication refills

View your current medication list

Ask questions about bills and other office matters

Receive test results and discuss what needs to be done

Send medical information to your doctor

Ask your doctor questions

Have a “web visit”

You might be able to avoid coming in to the office for simple problems

You can describe your health problem by email

If the problem is simple enough, the doctor can give you advice by email

If the problem is too complicated to deal with via email, we will ask you to make a regular in-person office visit

Will this be safe and private?

Privacy is a big concern for email communications

The NextMD system uses secure communication methods so only you can read email from us and only your doctor knows that you are the one who is writing

You will create a password that allows only you and our office to view your email

Your email will be safe and secure

As with any note your doctor writes, a copy of this email will be stored in your chart

How soon will I hear back?

Email communication will be responded to as soon as possible, within 48 hours.

If you have a concern that needs to be addressed urgently, it is best to call the office.

When should I not use email?

Do not use email to contact the office if you think you are having an emergency
Call 911 instead

Examples of an emergency might include:

Severe chest pain

Great difficulty breathing

A lot of bleeding

Unconsciousness

What will this cost?

There is no cost to sign up for this service or for most of the ways that you will use it

There is a $25 charge for a “web visit”

This fee is usually not covered by insurance

How will my doctor remember what we’ve talked about?

We will keep a copy of your email in your chart, just like an office visit note

What if I need a prescription?

We can phone, fax, or electronically send your prescription directly to your pharmacy
